Zeta is Forever in the Memphis Alumnae Chapter

The Memphis Alumnae Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha was founded over 60 years ago. This group has grown from its circle of founders supporting one collegiate chapter to a circle of over 100 women strong supporting our beloved Zeta Tau Alpha in word and deed. The ladies of the Memphis Alumnae Chapter are active in Zeta Tau Alpha, supporting multiple collegiate chapters across Tennessee, including Iota Xi at Christian Brothers University, Zeta Chapter at University of Tennessee at Knoxville and Theta Eta Chapter at Stephen F Austin University in Texas. Members provide support, encouragement and "sisterhood in a box" activities. We are proud to show collegiates that Zeta lasts a lifetime.

Our members range from new college graduates to women who have been Zetas for over 50 years! We are a vibrant, diverse group of women who are not only active in ZTA, but also our community. We focus on activities that serve to benefit our community and our philanthropy. We participate in Race for the Cure as well as monthly service projects like collecting school supplies, volunteering at the Memphis Family Shelter and more. At Christmas, we support the Memphis Area Panhellenic Association by staffing the gift wrap tables at a local bookstore. We also support the local Pink Out games with Christian Brothers University and the University of Memphis Women's Basketball team.

The Memphis Chapter also presents an annual Think Pink Luncheon and Fashion Show. Started in 2009, this event has grown to over 200 participants, with multiple sponsors and a wonderful afternoon of food, fashion, and shopping in the silent auction. Each year the event honors someone who has been an inspiration to the community and instrumental in the fight against Breast Cancer. Past honorees include: Molly Meisenheimer, Vicki Olson and Sherry Courtenay and Ron Olson. The 2011 Think Pink luncheon raised over $15,000 for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness.

We plan a variety of events for members throughout the year to stimulate and entertain you. There is something for everyone! Our annual White Elephant/Chili Supper supports a scholarship in honor of a local ZTA Alumna. We also have an annual little legacy party, Christmas Party, and summer dinners. Bunco with the members of Iota Xi has become a tradition not just for the games, but also for the fun times with our local collegiate chapter. Events for the whole family are planned as well, like Chick-Fil-A night and an Easter Egg hunt put on by CBU Zetas.

We are proud to serve one another, our community and our fraternity. We invite all Zetas to visit us and join in the fun. We love Memphis and we love ZTA!

  • About Zeta Tau Alpha

The Purpose of Zeta Tau Alpha:

The purpose of Zeta Tau Alpha is to intensify friendship, promote happiness among its members, to perform such deeds, and to mould such opinions as will conduce to the building up of a purer and nobler womanhood in the world.

    Open Motto: “Seek the Noblest”

The Creed of Zeta Tau Alpha:

To realize that within our grasp, in Zeta Tau Alpha, lies the opportunity to learn those things which will ever enrich and ennoble our lives; to be true to ourselves, to those within and without our circle; to think in terms of all mankind and our service in the world; to be steadfast, strong, and clean of heart and mind, remembering that since the thought is father to the deed, only that which we would have manifested in our experience should be entertained in thought; to find satisfaction in being, rather than seeming, thus strengthening in us the higher qualities of the spirit; to prepare for service and learn the nobility of serving, thereby earning the right to be served; to seek understanding that we might gain true wisdom; to look for the good in everyone; to see beauty, with its enriching influence; to be humble in success, and without bitterness in defeat; to have the welfare and harmony of the Fraternity at heart, striving ever to make our lives a symphony of high ideals, devotion to the Right, the Good, and the True, without a discordant note; remembering always that the foundation precept of Zeta Tau Alpha was Love, “the greatest of all things.” -- Shirley Kreasan Strout
